With the holiday coming up, who doesn't start to think about what they are thankful for? For me I am very thankful for a class of kiddos that are eager to learn and parents who support the learning process and want to be a part of their child's success! I am also very thankful for a job at a school that believes ALL children can achieve! As a parent I am thankful that my own two daughters have wonderful teachers that love them and want them to succeed! What a family we have at Willard East! :)
Reading
We are starting Guided Reading Groups this week where your student will get small group instruction at their reading level. We will be focused on learning new strategies to improve our reading! Each kiddo got a "book bag" this week, please check these out and let your child read a book to you! If they read it by themselves and you sign it they can bring it back for small treat!
Thank you for sending in the sight word lists! The kids are loving adding their stars to the wall! They are doing great.
Writing
We are really focusing on stretching and sounding out words. We are also stressing the importance of reading our own writing. The first time we did the most students were upset they could not read/remember what they were writing. We are also talking about things like finger spaces between words, making sure our words are sitting on the line, and that we are using our word wall to help our spelling. Many students are making great strides in writing.
Math
We have been talking a lot about patterns this week. They enjoy using all the manipulative to make patterns. This week we will begin to talk about addition and putting numbers together. We are starting with +1.
Science
We will be doing fun activities with leaves and turkeys this week and next.
Thanksgiving
We will be doing some thanksgiving themed crafts to practice our fine motor skills. They are doing much better at scissor holding, cutting, gluing, etc.
