We have had a very busy two weeks and I don't think it is going to slow down any between now and winter break :) We will have a four day weekend this week and come back next Wednesday ready to GO!
Please check out the photo gallery for the pictures of all the fun activities we have had the last couple of weeks :)
In reading, we have been talking about voice in the stories and making predictions. In writing, we have been continuing to work on writing stories about ourselves. Working hard on writing sentences using our sight words we know and stretching out the sounds that we hear in words. They are doing great!
In Math, we have finished up going through the teen numbers and learning about number 20. Ask your child to sing the "Teen numbers start with a 1" rap, it's great!

I really enjoyed meeting with each family to discuss your little one. I know how important they are to you all and I feel very privileged to get to work with them everyday. I just adore each of them and their unique personalities. :)
Now the nuts and bolts:)
LITTLE BIRD TALES-At home project
I will start sending home an Ipad on Fridays with one student. This is a project that needs to be completed and turned back in on the following Monday.  We are using the app Little Bird Tales to create a story "All About _______ (your child)" You will need to help your child complete this activity by taking 6 pictures:
  • Picture 1-Your Child
  • Picture 2-Your House
  • Picture 3-Room
  • Picture 4-Animal (or stuffed animal)
  • Picture 5-Favorite Toy
  • Picture 6-Family

After taking the pictures you will record your child narrating their story.  Very detailed directions will be sent home with your child when it is their turn to complete the activity. Below are the dates of the first few students who will be taking the Ipads home on Friday and returning them with their completed project on Monday.
On Friday, Gabriel will take the iPad home to complete the project.

50th Day of School is coming up on October 23rd! Look for homework :) Students may come to school dressed like a child of the 50's!
Over the next two weeks we are going to be very BUSY! Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday 10/23 and Tuesday 10/28. If you need another reminder please let me know :) I am looking forward to seeing and talking with each of you about your child's progress. Please come with questions and concerns. If there are major things we find we need to discuss in more detail we can schedule another conference at a later date. As these are only 15mins, which goes by very quickly.
Last week we did a lot of math and science involving leaves. Thank you to all the families that brought in such beautiful leaves to share with the class.
This week we will be continuing to learn about the teen numbers 11-19. Please be practicing these numbers at home as well. The students seem to get stuck with these numbers. Ask them to teach you the rap we have learned "ALL the numbers in the teens start with a ONE"
In writing we are starting to write more on one topic. The students are doing a really good job starting to write sentences. They are also adding speech bubbles to their illustrations. We are stretching the words to write all the sounds we here in a word as well.
In reading, the students are learning and practicing their sight words while reading emergent text. This week we are concentrating on "turning on" the words by touching the words as we read poems like "Itsy Bitsy Spider". I CAN READ folders will be coming home on Friday, please read the note inside the folder and return on Monday. This will be traveling back and forth on the weeks for the students to practice reading at home. They will use them in class through the week.
