We have had a busy week learning all about firefighters and fire safety. I loved reading all about what your families are doing to get prepared just in case of a fire. The students enjoyed sharing with their friends what they do in case of an emergency.
In math this week we finished up the numbers 0-10 and now we will be moving on to the TEEN numbers ! These seem to be the hardest for the students to catch on to because their name does not tell them how to write it, that silly one just throws them off, many students will start out writing them 81(eight-teen). They think the number should come first. Please practice these numbers with your student at home as well. In writing we are working on writing sentences with sight words, ex " I like..." They are doing a great job of that and labeling their pictures.
During Daily 5 this week we continued to add activities to our WORD WORK stations and introduced WORK ON WRITING (lists, letters, poems, write the room). These activities will be for them to explore the other aspects of writing and practice them.
Next week we will be reading and learning about LEAVES. If you happen to be outside in next week, pick some up and send them in! :)
PUMPKIN CARVING
We will be carving pumpkins in our classroom on October 28th for Spooktacular at the Dickerson Park Zoo. I am needing parents to help carve pumpkins in our classroom. You would be working with a small group (4 kids) on carving one pumpkin. If this is something you would be interested in, I will be sending a link to sign up for that. We will also be needing carving kits if you have one or would like to donate one for the cause :)
LIBRARY BOOKS
The class is bringing home their library book today. They are very excited about this! Please remember that library is next Friday, so they need to bring their book back before or on next Friday to get a new book. I will try to send a Remind message to remind you:) I may need to send myself a Remind message to remember to do that.... :)
READING LOGS
I sent reading logs today. If you did not get one, let me know and I will send home another one. The Book-It program also starts in October, and when you and your child reads at least 10 books in a month, return the reading log and your child will get a coupon to receive a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! Also, when your child reads 100 books in our class, I will order pizza for them and we will get to celebrate their accomplishment! If you have any questions, please let me know.
