I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! I know I got in some quality time with my girls and extended family. My family and I got to run the Turkey Trot in Springfield for the first time, with everyone participating!
For the next couple of weeks we will be doing lots of fun holiday crafts and gearing up for the end of 2nd quarter. Please continue to read with your child every night to build stamina and sight word knowledge! I love getting the little books in signed saying your child has read them by themselves with you :) I have started DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) this week. This will show up on your child's progress report for 2nd quarter. We also are starting guided reading this week. Be looking for new books in their "book bag". The students are really excited to start this!
In Writing we will be learning all about adding to our stories and using transitional words to expand our narratives. We will also be writing some more informational text about Bears and Reindeer.
In reading we are still working on predicting and retelling to build comprehension skills. As well as learning about schema and using non-fiction text to build our knowledge about a particular subject or topic.
In Math we have started a new unit on measurement. We will be using various things to measure with nonstandard units. The first non standard form of measurement we will use is our own foot.
