This week we have been learning about the similarities and differences between Pilgrims and Native Americans. We even got to take a virtual tour of the plantation at Plimoth and the village of the Wampanoag Indians.
In Math, we are still plugging away at addition facts 0-5. Please practice these facts with your child at home (ex, 0+1=1, 0+2=2, 0+3=3 through 5+5=10). The standard for our kiddos is that they need to be fluent in the facts 0-5. Fluent means basically have them memorized to the point where they do not need to count or use manipulatives to figure out the answer.
In writing, this week we used what we know about vowel sounds and sight words to help us write TRUE stories or stories about something that we have done or something that has happened to us. We also practiced writing friendly letters.
Each student has now been given a reading assessment to determine what reading level they are on. Starting next week I will be pulling them into groups to practice reading strategies to help them with tricky works and/or tackling harder books.
Some things to work with your child at home are; sight words, counting to 100, writing numbers 0-20, identify numbers 0-20 and writing a sentence to go with an illustrated picture.
