This is going to be another short week but still with lots of fun excited stuff! We will begin our study of color words this week and wrap up the next Friday. We will start with RED tomorrow (9/8). I will send a Remind text each morning along with a note each night. I just hope that this blog post makes it to you all with out cuts. :/ Please check out some of our other tabs on the blog for more info :) See you tomorrow!
In writing, last week we did our first district prompt. The students were asked to draw/write about something that has really happened to them ie "personal narrative". Yes, that is correct I did say that on week 3 we did a personal narrative writing prompt :) I will be checking them all out and sending home a rubric to let you know what stage of writing your child is working at. If you are wanting to work with your child on writing at home we are drawing pictures "stories" about true happenings in our lives and then labeling the picture. Example: Dog might just be labeled with a "D". We will start with beginning sounds and then move to stretching words, then on to writing sentences and finally stories.
In reading, we have started "Word Work." This is a part of our Daily 5 where the students practice writing ABC, names and words. We are also continuing to build our stamina in Read to Self. We have made it to 6 whole minutes without disruptions. :)
In Math, we have learned numbers 0-10 and now we will be concentrating on writing and recognizing numbers 0-5. If you are wanting to donate to the classroom, we are in need of individual play dough for math stations.
Our 2nd habit that we learned was "Begin with the end in mind." This is a hard habit because it includes setting goals. We read stories and talked about Kindergarten Goals looked like. This week we will continue to talk about goals and even set one or two for the 1st semester. :)
