Welcome to a 4 day week! :) I hope you all had a great day off, we learned all about how to get the kids actively talking about MATH! It was very interesting.
In Math: this week we will start out SHAPES unit, starting off reviewing 2D shapes and then moving into 3D shapes next week. Try playing "I spy shapes" in your environment with your students to help reinforce these skills.
In Reading: we will be reading the book, Tacky the Penguin, and learning how to infer (use clues from the text to guess what will happen next) and compare two characters in the book, along with making a text to self connection with the book. Please be checking your students book bags from school to see what book they are reading in group and talk with them about it and have them show you their reading. Continue to be practicing sight words this will not only help your child with reading but if you are writing them as well they will improve in their writing.
In writing: we are still doing HOW TO books and this week we will be writing a book on how to build a snowman. If you would like to help your child in the area of writing you could start keeping a small journal for them. Have them write a sentence using 1 capital letter at the beginning, spaces between words, stretching sounds, sight words and punctuation at the end. Then just have them draw a picture to match the sentence. This will not only help them but you will be able to see the areas they are having trouble with. Once they can do one sentence have them add details to start writing short stories.
